Campaign For ByPass For Maybole

A BYPASS for Maybole has moved up the political agenda again. Transport minister Keith Brown has agreed to meet with campaigners fighting for major road improvements to the town. The moved comes after the issue was raised in the Scottish Parliament by Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP Adam Ingram. And it follows a visit by First Minister Alex Salmond to Maybole last week. Mr Ingram explained: “I am delighted that the transport minister has accepted the invitation to come to Maybole and meet local campaigners on the issue. “The visit will give him a chance to see for himself just how vital a bypass is for the local area. more

Article by Stuart Wilson of the Ayrshire Post (May 2011)

HE’S the politician who’s re- writing history. And the very future of Scotland will lie in the hands its charismatic leader, Alex Salmond. Now the country’s First Minister wants South Ayrshire to play a key part in his bold new Scotland. Mr Salmond insists he will make the most of the region’s untapped potential during the coming years. And, during an interview with the Post, he revealed his hopes and dreams for some of the area’s key facilities. Scotland’s leader sat down with Stuart Wilson to outline his vision – and every base was covered. Mr Salmond spoke candidly of his views on the Gaiety Theatre, revealed his dream to provide a bypass for Maybole more

Council Leader Bill McIntosh went walkabout on Maybole High Street recently with Peter Mason, chair of Maybole Bypass Committee, and David Kiltie, chair of Maybole Community Council . Afterwards they discussed the campaign to establish a start date for the bypass and Peter Mason showed the Leader the bypass web site on his laptop computer. Mr McIntosh later wrote to Mr Kiltie saying, “The case for a bypass is compelling. The A77 is a major trunk road carrying significant volumes of heavy goods vehicles en route from Ireland. more

"NO to Congestion – YES to By-Pass” That’s the slogan for Maybole’s latest campaign to get a by-pass for the town and it is featured on new car stickers which were launched last weekend. The town’s By-pass Committee had invited designs for the car stickers with a prize of an i-pod nano and the winner was 11 year old Rory Galloway, a P7 pupil at Gardenrose Primary.  Rory was presented with his prize by David Kiltie, chair of Maybole Community Council, at the launch in Maybole Town Hall last Saturday morning. more

  • Atkins was requested in April 2004 to undertake a study of transport problems on the A77 on the section through the town of Maybole in South Ayrshire. It was agreed that residents in Maybole would be consulted on the existing situation in respect of the trunk road in Maybole. This report summarises the main findings of the surveys undertaken. "The A77 Trunk Road through Maybole - South Ayrshire Council's Proposals March 2005" has been prepared and submitted to Atkins for consideration.

The town's people have been continuously and relentlessly campaigned to groups, council, ministers and the government to request the development and construction of a bypass for the A77 around the town.

The bypass committee have been running a campaign for many many years. The committee have recently received the confirmation from the current Scottish government minister for transport that Maybole WILL indeed get a bypass.

The timescales have however not been made known. We urge all users of the A77 trunk road to support the campaign to announce a date for the construction and development of the bypass to begin.
